Of course they are meant for each other!

I know Stephen Hillenburg claimed that SpongeBob was "asexual", but he made comments before the show debuted in the U.K. (to Ken Tucker of Britannica) which clearly show that SpongeBob and Sandy were meant to be more than just friends. Stephen Hillenburg said "'Adults will want to check out SpongeBob's girlfriend, Sandy Cheeks, the surfer squirrel--she's pretty cool too".
