Sorry for bumping this thread guys, I was just looking back on older posts (I.e: mostly stuff posted before I joined), and I wanted to express my opinion on this topic. So, once again, sorry!
The way I'm seeing things, the Spongepedians are probably under the assumption that just because SpongeBob's a kids' cartoon, it means that people SHOULDN'T be pairing up the characters with EACH OTHER. AT ALL. I know this because I sometimes get messages on my deviantART asking why I pair up SpongeBob characters. Of course, I know many other Spongepedians prefer Sandy with Patrick or SpongeBob with Mindy, but to be honest... I don't think the former would work at all and the jury's out on the latter. But at the end of the day, almost EVERY fandom has pairings, even other cartoons.
Also, this is an early example of SpongeBob-related drama I've come across, heavily involving, what I like to call, "Spongetards". I've seen much worse drama over this year (mostly involving MikuMikuDance-related tosh, but I'll be going off-topic and it would take half the size of this post if I tried to explain what's been going on there), again, involving other Spongetards, but seriously... there was no justification for the Spongepedians to bash GG over her pairing. Same with you guys (unfortunately), there wasn't really much call for your backlash against Spongepedia. It was just simply a pointless shipping war.
