T’was the night before Christmas, and through the house near and far,
Not a creature was stirring, not even a sea star.
The sea stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that a certain sponge would soon be there.
The kittens were all nestled, nuzzling each other’s heads,
While visions of small fish danced in their heads.
My dog on the couch, and I in my Sonic cap,
Had just settled down for a long Winter nap.
When out on the lawn, came high pitched laughter,
I sprang from the couch to see what was the matter
Away to the window, I flew in a flash,
Tore open the blinds, and wiping away the snowy ash
The moon on the breast of the newly laid snow,
Shone over the mid-day objects below.
When what to my wandering eyes should appear,
Was a yellow sleigh with green holes, but not pulled by reindeer.
With a yellow little guy who jumped around like a waterlogged ant.
I knew in a moment, it was SpongeBob SquarePants
More rapid than tiger sharks, his coursers they came
He screeched out a whistle, and called them by name;
‘’Now Squidward! Now Patrick! Now, Sandy and Gary!
On, Krabs! On Plankton! On Squilliam and Larry!
To the top of the porch! To the top of the wall!
Now swim away! Swim away! Swim away all!’’
As swimmers in an ocean tidal wave fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, they mount to the sky.
So up to the house top, the sea creatures they flew,
With a sleigh full of Krabby Patties, and Mr. SquarePants too.
And then, in a clunking, they landed and scattered soot,
I could hear the pitter patter of each creature’s foot.
As I drew in my hand, and was turning around,
Down the chimney came the sponge with a bound
He was dressed in square pants, and his scarf draped down to his left foot,
And his clothes were dirty with water and soot
A bundle of patties he had flung on his back
And he looked like a vendor, just opening the food pack
His eyes- how they sparkled! His freckled dimples- how cute!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a flute!
His wide, buck toothed mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the stripes on his scarf were as white as the snow.
His tongue was slowly licking the back of his teeth,
And the smoke from the chimney surrounded his head like a wreath.
He had a broad face and a square shaped belly
That shook when he laughed, like Jellyfish brand jelly
He was happy and laughing, like a small, but yellow, elf,
And I laughed when I heard him, in spite of myself.
A wink of his eye and a slight nod of his head,
Reassured me that I had nothing to dread.
He uttered not a word, but went straight to his work.
He filled up the stockings, and then turned around with a jerk.
And playing his nose like a small flute,
He rose up the chimney, leaving me a last glance of his square suit.
He hopped into the sleigh, giving his team a quick whistle,
And away they took off, like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, as he drove out of sight,
‘’Spongy Christmas to all! And to all a good night!’’
