So, I caught a rather recent new episode called "Perfect Chemistry". Here's the plot..
"When Plankton tries to use Sandy's knowledge of science in an attempt to steal the Krabby Patty formula (without her knowing), SpongeBob becomes jealous when he believes there is a bond between their love of science. "
Really. In one scene, while Plankton and Sandy are bonding, SpongeBob's heart breaks. He is saddened that Sandy is not spending more time with him, and spending more time with Plankton.
This sounds like a huge hint to me!
