Spongebob has been over to Sandy's house a lot lately, he finds himself staring at her more and more. He doesn't really seem to know if she knows he's staring at her or not, she's usually always busy doing something. Even if she is busy, sometimes he just likes to sit to watch and admire what she does. Even when he is at work, he can't help but think about her. Sometimes he even has dreams about her, some of them are nightmares while others are dreams that he wishes would happen. He didn't used to think about Sandy all the time so he thought that something was wrong with him. Since Sandy was a scientist he thought that maybe she could help him even though she was the source of his problems. He decided that he didn't have to tell her that she was causing this and hoped that she could help him.
He walks down the road towards her treedome, but first stops at the flower store. He loved giving Sandy flowers, the smile on her face made him smile right back. He knocks on the door and waits for her to let him in. She opens the door and tells him that she had a sprinkler system running for him so he wouldn't have to wear a helmet anymore. He hands her the flowers and right as she grabbed them their hands slightly touched. He looked at her and tried his best not to blush, and hope Sandy wouldn't question him about it. He walks in and sits down at her picnic table while he waits for Sandy to get a vase and the tea and cookies they always have. He was deep in thought and after about five minutes Sandy finally came back out and she noticed his stare. He was staring up at the sky in deep thought. Finally she got his attention.
"Hey Spongebob is there something on your mind?"
"Um yes Sandy, but it's kind of hard to explain so that's why I came over. I was hoping you could help me figure out if something is wrong with me."
Sandy was quiet for a moment, she wondered what could have been so hard to tell her.
"I'll see what I can do Spongebob. Even though I'm a scientist, that doesn't really make me a psychiatrist so I can't guarantee that I'll be able to solve your problem."
"Well for some reason I feel like I really need some professional help so I came to you first Sandy."
"Ok so can you tell me what it is that's bothering you? Is it physical, mental, or emotional?"
"I think it may be all three Sandy."
"Ok lets cover physical. You look like you're ok to me, but what is bothering you physically?"
"First of all let me just start by saying that for some reason the physical stuff only bothers me when I come over here?"
"Why is that Spongebob, what are some of your physical problems?"
"I feel healthy, but sometimes my heart rate picks up, I feel all weak in the knees, my stomach feels funny, my hands get a little sweaty, but the worst part is this whole shakiness in my whole body."
"Hmm that is strange Spongebob. You're going to have to talk about some of your mental or emotional stuff before I can try to figure out what's going on."
"Ok Sandy... for some weird reason, and this only started happening recently, I've been having nightmares, and good dreams, but you are in all of them. I don't mean to sound creepy or anything, but for some reason I just can't get you off of my mind Sandy."
Sandy at this point is unsure about how to help him, as she was listening to him she was looking up things in a scientific book to see if she could find out if he had some kind of problem. As she looked in her book she couldn't really find anything that he was experiencing so at the end of her book it says he might just be crazy.
"I've been listening to your situation Spongebob, but I can't really find any medical/scientific problem with you. I've come to the end of the book and it says you may just be crazy."
Spongebob was silent for a while. He didn't really know what to say or what to do so Sandy spoke up before he did.
"Unless your problem is a kind of problem that can't be solved scientifically."
"Maybe you're right Sandy... I think we've been going at this all wrong. It's not something I need to figure out scientifically, it's something I need to figure out emotionally. We've been thinking with our brains, but we've completely ignored the feelings part to it."
"Well you already told me your physical problems. This kind of worries me Spongebob... sit still for a moment and let me see if I can figure it out."
She looked at him for a moment, and walked over to him and reached for his hands, which happened to be sweaty and she could feel the shakiness.
"I'm sorry Sandy... my hands are a bit sweaty for some reason. It's not really that hot in here so I don't know why they're getting so sweaty."
He puts on a nervous smile because he actually enjoyed her holding his hand and the shakiness seemed to calm down a little bit too.
"It seems to me like your are suffering from a bit of anxiety Spongebob? Now that I think about it this kind of stuff does happen to people that have anxiety problems. Usually when people suffer from anxiety they are too excited about something or worried about something. Maybe almost like they were trying to hide something that they don't want someone to know."
Spongebob kind of realized what she meant and felt like she was directing it at him.
"You know something Sandy... some of the shakiness seemed to fade away when you came over here and held my hand."
He didn't know it, but he was blushing and Sandy saw it.
"What were the rest of your symptoms?"
"A funny feeling in my stomach and my heart keeps racing... it only happens when I'm around here Sandy."
Sandy realized that maybe Spongebob had the same problem that she had. These are some of the things Sandy experienced when he was around. Her scientific mind didn't want to believe it, but her heart did.
"That's weird Spongebob... I have these same things happen to me too. Now aside from the physical stuff... you said that you had me on your mind lately?"
"Yeah... I think I finally found out why. I can't help but think of how beautiful you are, or the sound of your voice. Sometimes just the thought of seeing you smile makes my day. Sometimes I have nightmares where bad things happen to you and I wake up in the middle of the night crying or screaming. Other times when I have good dreams it's just you and me... sitting somewhere, hugging each other, watching the sunset..."
Spongebob doesn't realize this but since Sandy was still holding his hands and he was rambling on, but listened to every word. He got lost in what he wanted to happen and he closes his eyes and starts doing what he's explaining.
"We watch the sunset together, hold each other close, and as the sun is set perfectly... I slowly come in and kiss your lips."
Sandy was kind of freaked out for a moment because she wasn't sure if Spongebob knew what he was doing, she let go of Spongebob's hand and she blushed a deep red and brought him back to reality.
"Spongebob! Hello? Earth to Spongebob!"
He freaks out and snaps out of it.
"What? Oh... Sandy I was just... explaining what happened in the dream. I'm sorry about that... things got kind of awkward for a minute there..."
Both of them were silent for a few moments and they looked away from each other. Sandy didn't want to admit it, but she had the same dreams and same problems as Spongebob did. Finally they look back at each other at the same time. Their eyes met and they started having second thoughts.
"You know Spongebob... it wouldn't be completely impossible for all of that to happen you know. I mean you're not wearing a helmet right now."
Spongebob started getting a little nervous, but also a bit excited.
"Wait Sandy... are you telling me that you actually want to kiss me?"
"What? That's not what I said at all... I just said it was possible."
He was actually a bit disappointed now because he actually wanted it to happen."
"I know it seems weird Sandy... especially with us being friends and all, but would one kiss hurt anything?"
"I don't know about it hurting anything... I feel like it would just change things between us on a weird level."
Spongebob nodded his head in agreement and decided to change the subject.
"Well anyway... Hey Sandy how about we practice a little bit of karate?"
"That sounds good to me."
They each take a moment to put on their karate gear and start the karate match. It seemed like everything went back to normal at the moment until something unexpected happened. Spongebob was putting up a good fight and had Sandy on the run. When she thought she lost him she stopped to catch her breath for a moment until she saw him running at her. She realized it was too late to turn around to run so she had to run backwards, but just as she moved backwards she found herself tripping over one of her big tree roots. Spongebob tries to catch her so she wouldn't fall but ended up falling right on top of her. They could both feel their hearts beating together and as they looked at each other in the eyes Spongebob found himself moving closer to her face and he kissed her right on the lips. He enjoyed it for a moment until he realized what he was doing and stopped. He awkwardly got off of her, but still offered to help her up. Sandy looked at him as he held out his hand as he offered to help her up. She takes his hand and gets up dusting herself off. Then there was more awkward silence between them as they looked away from each other at the ground until one of them spoke up.
"Sandy... I love you and...I'm sorry about the kiss... I know I shouldn't have done it and you probably don't feel the same way but I was just..."
Sandy had heard enough. She didn't want this awkward friendship between them, she always wanted them to be more than friends and now that she knew for sure she knew he wanted that too. What he was going to say was that he just got caught up in the moment. Spongebob realized that when he kissed Sandy he did it so quick that when he realized what was going on he freaked out and never let her have a chance to kiss him back. Now that she actually kissed him back he didn't want it to end. At first he was in shock, but after Sandy wrapped her arms around him he did the same thing and returned the kiss. When the kiss finally ended it was Sandy's turn to speak.
"You know what Spongebob... hearing you say I love you is all I wanted to hear. I love you too Spongebob."
Spongebob couldn't believe what she just said and thought for sure that he was dreaming.
"Woah... is this really happening? Do you really mean that Sandy?"
"Yes. I really mean it Spongebob. Do you know what else... since most scientist don't believe love really exist they think that all of those symptoms you had and all of that talk you were doing just made you crazy, but since I have all of the same symptoms and I feel the same way I guess that means that we both need to seek professional help."
Sandy motioned for him to sit with her back at the picnic table. He does this as sits beside her and they watch the sunset together. He held her hand and laughed agreeing with her.
"Yeah... I guess that makes us both crazy Sandy."
The End
